Template:Main CharactersBaronet Corvo, better known as Raven and also as Corbie, was a nobleman from Opal. He was a thin man with dusky skin. He was not especially tall and appeared to be in his late twenties. His preferred weapon was the knife, but he was also an excellent archer and even had some talent for magic. A man known for his exceptional combat skills and cold-blooded manners, Raven was feared both by friends and enemies.

Enlisting In The Black Company

He crossed paths with the Black Company who had recently accepted Soulcatcher as their employer and were moving north through Opal. Once they reached the city, Raven invited them on a meeting in the park. Raven asked for a permission to join the Company, which resulted in a long discussion. Croaker was intrigued by him and approved his recruitment, however One-Eye and the Captain refused to accept him. They felt that his past would cause trouble.

And they were right. Raven's troubles were related to the most dangerous and vicious sorcerer among the Ten Who Were Taken – the Limper. Raven had been betrayed by his own wife and friends and had lost all his possessions in scheme designed by Limper himself.

The Company asked Raven to either finish quickly or abandon his quest for revenge, in order to join them. He started right away. Three of his enemies (his wife and two men) were at the park at that time. Raven recognized his traitors and executed them in public. A few days later Raven joined the Company, declaring he had hunted most of his traitors and was willing to forget those who had escaped his justice.

Soon after joining them Raven demonstrated a more human side to his cold personality. At that time the Company was passing through a village, which had been attacked and burned by Limper's own soldiers. The few survivors were seen being tortured and humiliated. Although both Soulcatcher and Limper, as well as their soldiers were supposed to be allies, Raven did not hesitate to kill two of the soldiers in order to protect a mute young girl. The girl was adopted by the Company and was later known as Darling.

The conflict with Limper's soldiers was postponed, but was not forgotten. Some time later the Company sent Raven with a small squadron on a mission, but they failed to report back. Croaker and the others decided to investigate and found their fellow soldiers dying or severely wounded, with Limper's soldiers being responsible for the ambush. Raven had also received fatal wounds in this retaliation strike. Fortunately for him another Taken (Shapeshifter) was passing by with tasks for the Black Company. The sorcerer healed Raven and saved his life, his main reason being that Limper was also his enemy, in spite of the fact that both were serving the same master,

Raven survived and was instrumental in the victories The Lady's armies held over the Rebels in the following months. He was directly involved in the deaths of several Rebel generals. Together with Croaker he traced and killed Raker. He also took part in the capture of Whisper during her meeting with the traitor Limper, who was about to join the rebels. Raven finally had the chance to resolve his personal grudge with the traitor and was seen torturing him in a gruesome manner. However when offered the right to execute the Limper he refused to do so.

Having lost couple of their leaders, the rebels opted for a final confrontation. During the Battle of Charm where both sides intensively used destructive spells in combat, Raven was the first to deduce that their mute little girl might have a hidden power, as any spells seemed to lose their power and disappear near her. He deserted from the Black Company taking Darling with himself, in order to protect her from The Lady.

Defection

Several years later Raven appeared in Juniper, as a rich man involved in some shady affairs. Marron Shed, the owner of the Iron Lily Inn was involved in his business, as he owned money to the loan shark Krage and his thugs. Raven's dark secret was revealed. He was collecting dead bodies from the streets and selling them to the Black Castle. Raven and Shed even raided the city's Catacombs to steal some bodies and treasures from there. That move focused the authorities' attention on them. Krage who was previously humiliated by Raven also gathered his men and tried to eliminate him, but their ambush failed. Raven and Shed killed them all and even sold the bodies to the Castle. However Raven had to put a stop on this business once he found out that Croaker was also investigating his affairs on behalf of Lady. Being forced to flee, he used his savings to buy a ship and left the city along with Darling.

Soon afterwards Raven was reported dead. After abandoning The Lady during the Battle of Juniper, the Black Company brothers went to Meadenvil to investigate Raven's death and search for Darling. His decayed body was found in the outskirts near another newly-formed Black Castle. Croaker and the rest were not convinced and soon found proof that he is alive. They followed him to the city of Chimney, where they found Darling and his ship, however Raven was once again reported dead.

In The Barrowland

Years later under the name Corbie he reached the Barrowland and started working for the soldiers there. He moved in Bomanz's house in order to investigate the wizard's secrets. Raven sent some letters to Croaker, re-telling the true story of Bomanz. He used the gathered information to enter the Barrowland in his spirit form. He encountered the awakened Dominator and tried to run away. However Raven was unable to escape and his spirit remained trapped there. The soldier Philodendron Case who was his only friend at that time was taking care of his unconscious body.

Following Raven's letters, Croaker arrived and retrieved his friend's body. They both were captured by The Lady's soldiers and taken to the Tower of Charm. After The Lady and the White Rose formed an alliance against the Dominator, Raven's body and mind were united once again. At the end of the battle he tried to kill the unconscious Lady, but was shot in the hip by Croaker's arrow.

The Silver Spike

Raven survived the wound, but his body was permanently damaged. His love for Darling was revealed to be the motive behind his risky actions, but she could not forgive his lies and left him. Raven was stricken with grief. He went to Oar and wasted days in drinking, while Philodendron Case was trying to keep him out of trouble. Finally Raven felt that something bad was happening at the Barrowland and sobered up. He went to find help and encountered Darling's group. This time she at least accepted his company. Together they passed through Opal where Raven was forced by her to meet with his children. He had abandoned them before joining the Black Company and was ashamed to reveal his identity. The twins did not recognize him as their father and the emotional reunion didn't happen.

Back in the city of Oar, Raven learned of the theft of the Dominator-related artifact. He investigated and tried to follow the thieves of the Silver Spike, but was knocked unconscious by one of them. The spike surfaced again while the Limper was invading the city. Raven interfered and grabbed the artifact, again trying to be useful to Darling. This time his magic skills served as channel and he was infected by its black magic. Darling ordered his immediate execution, as the Dominator was starting to possess him.
