Corey was a young new recruit of the Black Company in the city of Aloe during the events of the three short stories "Tides Elba", "Smelling Danger", and "Bone Candy".
"Tides Elba"[]
Corey was present during the game of tonk with Company veterans Croaker, One-Eye, Goblin, Elmo, Otto, and Pawnbroker, when they all saw Tides Elba for the first time. Observing her from the outdoor seating of the Dark Horse tavern, they were immediately affected by what turned out to be her unconscious sorcery: an attraction aura. When One-Eye explained that she was a holy prostitute of the Temple of Occupoa, Corey became fixated on the idea of visiting the Temple.
"Smelling Danger"[]
Corey continues to while away the time by playing tonk with Silent, Otto, Elmo, and Croaker at the Dark Horse.
"Bone Candy"[]
Corey is given the unenviable task of keeping Buzz, the imperial bodyguard of Whisper's colonel Two Dead, hydrated as he suffers from inability to control his bowels. Buzz has been poisoned, and Corey dutifully provides water for the dangerously ill man for more than a day, with virtually no rest. He helps carry Buzz, stinking horribly of excrement, into Croaker's clinic, and reports that every liquid he poured into the man came right out the bottom. Croaker determines that Buzz is suffering from poke plant poisoning, and the Company works diligently to save his life despite the hostile conspiracy they uncover about him.
