For the paperback, see: The Books of the South

The three novels of the Books of the South form the second story arc of the Black Company series. The novels are The Silver Spike, Shadow Games, and Dreams of Steel.

The Silver Spike and Shadow Games take place concurrently, and Glen Cook has stated in interviews that both novels came about when a larger one "underwent mitosis". The Silver Spike – which is not narrated by a Black Company Annalist – describes the lives of characters like Darling, Raven, and Case, who remained behind in the northern continent after the Battle of the Barrowland and the departure of the Company. Shadow Games and Dreams of Steel describe the adventures of the Black Company proper as they journey south through the southern continent in search of fabled Khatovar.

The following omnibuses encompass the Books of the South. They are grouped by languages; the languages with the earliest publications are listed first.
